Learn how nurse educators like you are avoiding common diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) traps. During today’s session, nurse educators Corinn Herrell and Diane Bradley will be interviewing OADN DEI committee member Dr. Grace Norris to explore information about the inclusion of DEI concepts in the simulation setting. The questions they will be asking in today’s interview surround particular areas that are considered traps and often not fully explored.

About the Presenters

PANELIST:

Dr. Grace Norris EdD, MSN, RN

Grace has been a Registered Professional nurse for 28 years. Her nursing journey began in Queens, New York, with an Associate degree from Queens Borough Community College and a BSN from York College.

After relocating to Delaware, Grace earned her master’s degree in nursing from Wilmington University and a Doctorate in educational leadership from Delaware State University. Her dissertation was titled Experiences of Nursing Students Regarding The Impact of Inclusive Nursing Curricula and Knowledge of Implicit Bias on HealthCare Disparities.

Grace has worked in various specialties from Medical surgical, ICU, ER, Cardiac ICU, and PACU and has a Vascular access specialist. Grace began teaching at Delaware Technical Community College after obtaining her MSN degree and has been a full-time faculty member for five years. She is a member of the Black Nurses Association and a member of the Organization of Associate Degree Nursing (OADN) DEI committee.

PANELIST:

Corinn Herrell, MSN, RN, CHSE, CNEn

Corinn has been in Nursing since 2003, with 17 years as a Registered nurse, serving the geriatric/adult population in progressive care units. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Nursing Education from Grand Canyon University in November 2013. Corinn has worked as a Nursing Educator in both the Academic and hospital settings for 11 years accumulating 11 years of Simulation experience in that time. Corinn currently works at Phoenix College Nursing as the Simulation Coordinator for the program and holds Certification as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator.

PANELIST:

Diane Lynn Bradley, MS, RN, CNE, CHSE

Diane has been a Registered Nurse for over 38 years. She received her BSN and MS in Exercise Physiology from West Virginia University and an MS in Nursing Education from Walden University. Diane’s clinical background includes caring for patients on various Medical Surgical Units, Same Day Care Unit, Inpatient and Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation, Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation, Home Health and Hospice. In 2007, Diane began teaching full-time at Delaware Technical Community College. She began her journey with simulation back in 2009 when she and a fellow nurse educator received a National League for Nursing Health Information Technology Scholarship. At this time, Diane is involved with all simulation activities that occur at Delaware Technical Community College. Diane is a Certified Nurse Educator and Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator.
